Rare Availability: Campsite at Fort Wilderness during Halloween Week

Mary here with a quick announcement to  let you know about a special opportunity…most of the Fort Wilderness campsites at Walt Disney World for late October are gone months in advance. Well, I found one that is left.

There is an opening — it may be gone by the time you read this — for a campsite for the Monday, October 26 – Thursday, October 29. I would have grabbed this for myself except I already have hotel reservations I booked months ago. The rate is $131.67/night. That’s a better rate than anything at Disney that week UNLESS you have a bounce back rate (like I do). If you do, you can get All Star Sports for those same dates (3 nights) for $118/night.

Eight people may be on the reservation. The campsite has room for two tents and a car or small camper and there is electric hookup.  Campers can rent golf carts by the day, which would come in handy, if you’re looking at all the Halloween-decorated campsites.  You could also rent bikes. Like all Disney accommodations, you will have access to bus and boat transportation to Magic Kingdom and Disney transportation to other parks and resorts. The pool area was recently renovated.

This is one of the best weeks to camp. The weather will be perfect. There is less chance of rain. And it’s an affordable way to bring the whole crew to Disney World to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom AND see those fabulous, decorated campsites. And did I mention — horses? Visiting the horses at Tri-Circle D Ranch is a special part of being at Fort Wilderness.

Two things that are important to know:

  1. Fort Wilderness will be CLOSED to non-campers from Monday, October 26 through November 2. That means — if you want to see those Halloween decorations that week, you need to be staying there (or have a dining reservation at Hoop de Doo, which is more than $70/person).
  2. Lake Shore Lodge is looming over Fort Wilderness and will open in the summer of 2027. No one knows exactly what the impact of a major, deluxe DVC hotel will be on Fort Wilderness…but it will be different. If you want to experience Fort Wilderness in its present iteration, I’d recommend booking reservations between now and March 2027. So…this is a good time to go.
  3. I know I said two. The third thing is that this is soooo rare. Jump on this!
