It’s no secret that Walt Disney loved horses. Horses were so important to him, he incorporated horses into his plans for Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Today, the Walt Disney Company is active in protecting wild horses and their environments. And at Disney World, there are horses everywhere, if you know where to look!

Looking for Disney horses can be a fun way to spend part of your Disney World vacation and there are plenty to be found!

You can’t really pet the horses at the Tri Circle D Ranch but I still like this picture :)

If you are very lucky, you might see some horses at Magic Kingdom. But you are sure to see a variety of kinds of horses when you visit the Tri Circle D Ranch at Fort Wilderness at Disney World There you’ll see ponies and horses that work at Disney World. This is also the place where you can go on a trail ride or take a wagon ride. Pony rides are available for children.

At Port Orleans Riverside, there are nightly carriage rides.

The Saratoga Springs resort at Disney World is themed around the famous upstate New York racetrack and you will see horse theming everywhere. It also features paintings of Disney animated horses in its lobby, including Maximus from Rapunzel and Angus from Brave.

Perhaps one of the most delicious representation of a horse is on the Buckeye chocolate peanut butter cupcake at Saratoga Springs. I can attest that this cupcake is light and yummy!

If you love horses as much as Walt did, then plan to visit on July 15, which is “I Love Horses Day.” This would be the year to celebrate horses, because 2026 also happens to be the Chinese Year of the Horse.  In the Chinese zodiac, the horse represents power, strength and vitality.

If you visit the shops in the China Pavilion at Epcot, you will find many horse-themed souvenirs, including this dainty ornament that I hang on my bulletin board.

It’s fun to celebrate days like “I Love Horses Day” at home, but if you happen to be at Disney World on that day (like I will be!), then here is a sample itinerary that is sized to fit into your 4″ x 6″ Disney Planner. I’ve included the PDF file below, as well as a link to the Google Doc, so you can customize the itinerary, if you like.

You can do this on any day, from any resort… but if you do stay at Saratoga Springs in the summer, try to make it a Wednesday night. Saratoga Springs is a Deluxe resort but there are rate specials this summer that make it a lot more affordable than the other Deluxe resorts at Disney World.

Not only would you get access to the amazing  pools and horse theming, but you would also get to stay late at Magic Kingdom on Wednesday night, as a Deluxe resort guest. That’s a great perk in the summer because you can wait until near sundown to go to the theme park, when the temperature will be cooler. You can also take advantage of the partial day ticket to save money on admission to the Magic Kingdom.

If you would like to learn more about the Disney Planner or add more free pages to it, check out this post about that.

Here I am wearing my new horse shirt for my upcoming trip ($10 at Hobby Lobby and 100% cotton). It is cool and comfortable!

I hope the Disney World horses approve! Have a magical and horsey day :)
