If you were thinking about going to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival, I have good news for you. Airfares right now are at low rates for fall flights and Party tickets are still available for these dates (10 dates have already sold out).
These airfares are available as of Friday night, August 7. They are likely limited in supply, so if you see a date you like, snap it up. I priced airfares from my home airport. But you may find similar low rates for late August, September and October.
Of course, these are on budget airlines and getting the best rate means being flexible with your seating and taking only a personal item bag.
I picked short trips because what really eats at your budget are hotel rooms. The most affordable rates for hotel rooms at Walt Disney World (and the area near it) are Monday through Thursday, so I tried to pick those days.
Here are some examples of the low airfares I found.
(1) $90 Monday, August 31 – Thursday, September 3. Depart Dulles (IAD) to Orlando (MCO) Frontier 10:45 am – 1:13 pm nonstop. Return 1:50 pm – 4:07 pm. If staying on Disney property, like an All Stars Resort, you would have free water park entry on Monday. On Tuesday, you could go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party for $139 + tax. The only drawback is that it will be hot and likely rainy, but this would be a fun way to squeeze the last drop out of summer, while going to the party for a low ticket price.
(2) $90 Monday, September 28 – Thursday, October 1. Depart Dulles (IAD) to Orlando (MCO) 11:12 am – 1:34 pm and return 8:16 am – 10:27 am. You could attend the Halloween party on Tuesday, September 29 for $172 + tax. You would have time to go to Epcot, Disney Springs or Fort Wilderness, if you wished, on Wednesday.
(3) $98 Wednesday, September 30 – Friday, October 2. Depart Dulles (IAD) to Orlando MCO on Frontier 11:12 am – 1:34 pm. Return on Breeze with a 40 minute stop in Bristol 1:57 pm – 5:56 pm. You would attend the Halloween party on Thursday, October 1 for $176 + tax. This itinerary interests me because October 1 is the 55th anniversary of the opening of Walt Disney World. Other than a special pin, I don’t know that there is anything going on to celebrate that day (I’ll be publishing a post later with suggestions!) but for a 2-night trip like this, I think I’d spend my arrival day in Disney Springs and the pool, Tuesday at the Party and, with a 2 pm flight departure, I’d have just enough time on Thursday morning for a quick breakfast and shopping in the resort gift shop before heading to the airport.
The rest of these flights are for the Halloween month of October!
(4) $119 Monday, October 5 – Thursday, October 8. Depart Dulles (IAD) to Orlando (MCO) at 11:12 am -1:34 pm (Frontier). Return 4:48 pm – 7:09 pm. You would purchase a Tuesday, October 6 Halloween party ticket for $186. This is a great time to go. It will be warm but the Halloween vibes will be strong, particularly at Fort Wilderness, which I think is a must add-on for your one of your non-party evenings. The departure and arrival times are not grisly. Kids are in school, mostly. You are avoiding Columbus Day and RunDisney crowds, as well as the college students who will swarm into the parks in mid-October after their mid-terms. It’s perfect. A little hot and rainy, but perfect.
(5) $90 Monday, October 26 – Thursday, October 29. Depart Dulles (IAD) to Orlando (MCO) at 8pm -10:28 pm (Frontier). Return 4:48 pm – 7:09 pm. Besides the price, there a couple of things I like about this itinerary. You could still go to work on Monday so it saves your PTO. You don’t have to get up at a ghastly early hour for either flight. You’d attend the Tuesday night Halloween Party ($209 + tax) and have all day Wednesday to spend at Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival, with time to sleep in on Thursday and have lunch before going to the airport at 2 pm for your departure flight. The weather would likely be fine, as well. The only drawback: you would not be able to go to Fort Wilderness to see the Halloween decorations as it will be closed to visitors from October 26 – November 2. But if that is not a big deal for you, it’s not a bad time to go. You’d likely see a mix of Halloween and Christmas merchandise in the stores around this time.
Do you have plans to visit Walt Disney World this fall?
