Madame Leota’s backstory is woven through official park lore, interactive queue details and expanded storytelling across Disney media (including movies!)
In addition to appearing in the Haunted Mansion, Madame Leota’s portrait hangs in the Memento Mori gift shop. They say if you knock on the portrait…and wait…sometimes, she knocks back!

The Ghost Host is your unseen, ominous guide through the Haunted Mansion—the eerie, booming voice that greets you in the Stretching Room and intones, “Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion…”
The Ghost Host accompanies you as you board and ride the Doom Buggy. He speaks to you through the speakers throughout the entire ride. Yes, today is the day we celebrate haunted houses in the Halloween month of October. And what better haunted house to celebrate than the one that has 999 ghosts — the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World!
